Anamías Melgar, Finca La Hermosa
I've been growing coffee since I was a child...
My parents taught me, and we continue to work our land together, with my siblings. We are very close as a family and are always there for each other, through thick and thin. We all live near one another and help each other with the children, sharing the burden of our problems.
I own 1.5 hectares of land where I grow coffee, and together we own about 12 hectares, between my parents and siblings. However, it doesn't really matter who owns each plot, since we share the workload.
Although we are currently going through many difficulties, we also have hope and believe in a better tomorrow. I haven't been a Cafesmo member for very long, but even though I've been growing coffee for 30 years, I'm still learning many new things since I joined. About better cultivation techniques, but also about how to manage water and keep our farms and the surrounding land clean.
Through Cafesmo, we've obtained our Fair Trade and Organic certifications, but our true dream is to continue producing micro-lots from our own land. A coffee that will allow us to earn an even fairer price in the future, so our children can stay in school and finish their secondary education. But above all, a coffee we can be proud of, for the joy it will bring us!
