Finance and facilities

It's not easy to develop a relatively young and small organization with limited resources. Access to credit is as difficult as it is necessary. In 2018, we won a competition and, thanks to that, received support from the World Bank: $800,000, of which 60% was a grant, 30% a loan, and the remaining 10% was backed by Cafesmo's own capital.

This capital injection has allowed us to significantly improve our facilities. Our new wet mill uses 90% less water than the previous one, and the wastewater is being treated through a slow decomposition process.

Our new wet benefit uses 90% less water.

We also built a new building for our offices, group meetings, and our own tasting lab. The building has no air conditioning or fans. So, thanks to the pleasant climate in our area, we work in offices where only our computers—and the coffee machine—consume energy.

The cupping laboratory is essential to ensure that we can control the quality of our coffee lots ourselves, and thus meet the expectations of our buyers, while at the same time ensuring that our producers receive a fair price for their coffees.

Furthermore, we strive to obtain low-interest loans for our organization and our member producers. Without these efforts, many producers risk financial ruin.
