Gloria Marina Fuente, Finca El Anonito

I've only been working my farm for five years.

It used to belong to my father-in-law, but now my son and I are responsible for that farm, and for my son's farm as well. Together, we cultivate 2.5 hectares.

My son is also a coffee technician for an international organization that works in Honduras to improve coffee farming conditions: supporting small producers in the process of digitizing data, and in the conversion towards a more sustainable agricultural model for the planet.

The knowledge my son has gained at his job is also incredibly useful on our own farms. It's what has allowed us to improve farm maintenance, our processes, and the shade we provide. We also participated in Cafesmo workshops, where we learned how to prepare micro-lots.

We are committed to preparing high-quality batches. This is partly to improve our income and partly because it gives us more satisfaction in our work.

Although we live in San Marcos, the main town in our region, our farms are located outside, in the nearby mountains of La Lima. There is plenty of natural shade, and we also planted fruit trees for our own consumption.

What I personally enjoy most about working on the farm is harvest season. Many say it's a time of frantic work and stress. Strangely, for me, harvesting is synonymous with relaxation and peace. The abundant nature on my farm, the gentle snap of a bean being picked from its branch, the contrasting colors of the green leaves, the red beans, the deep blue sky… all of it gives me a pleasant, meditative feeling.

Furthermore, we are always alone on the farm, except during the harvest months. It's the perfect time to spend time with the pickers. We talk, share, and eat together.

Our next goal is to work with one or two roasters in Europe, and more generally, as a mother, my main goal is to do everything possible so that my children can achieve their dreams and fulfill their potential. It brings me great joy that they were able to pursue university studies. When I was young, studying at that level was beyond my family's reach. But now I see broader horizons and a more prosperous future for the next generation!
